Electric & Hybrid magazine interviewed Gareth Cooper, Senior Transmission Engineer at SMT, to investigate as hybrid and electric vehicle popularity grows, the challenges designers face when solving NVH issues with CAE before they become a problem.
Because electric motors don’t generate the same noise as traditional combustion engines new methods are having to be employed early in the design phase. Discovering these issues at the prototyping phase is costly and wastes a lot of time and resources. Gareth explains the benefits that can be made from using CAE software such as MASTA and MEASA at the design stage to simulate responses and frequencies virtually.
