Design electric machines for increased power density, increased efficiency, refined NVH, reduced cost and reduced weight. MASTA 12 includes brand new capabilities for the electromagnetic design and analysis of electric machines:

• Design multiple machine types – Interior Permanent Magnet, Synchronous Reluctance and Permanent Magnet Assisted Synchronous Reluctance machines. Further machine types will be added in future releases
• Template based models – Build and modify template based electric machine models. Ideal for quick concept design and parameter studies. Templates includes all key geometry parameters, including e.g. rotor notches and tooth asymmetry for NVH optimisation
• CAD based models – Import and modify fully detailed CAD geometries for full flexibility in geometry details for all machine parts e.g. flux barriers, magnet regions, stator teeth, notches. Convert template based models to CAD based models at the click of a button to add further geometry details. Parameterise CAD based geometry and drive those parameters in MASTA, via RUNNA and via Scripting
• Full Electrical Steel and Magnet Materials Database – MASTA includes a fully populated database for electrical steel and magnet materials from suppliers from all major regions including Europe, USA, China and Japan. Electrical steels include detailed nonlinear BH curves and core loss data. Add custom materials with user defined inputs.
• Windings – Automated winding configurations with high winding factors. Specify a custom winding via individual coil specifications. Winding diagrams and winding MMF charts.
• Electromagnetic Analysis – A high fidelity 2D FE based electromagnetic analysis. Default FE mesh setup with controls for user modification. Analyse load cases with speed, current and current angle inputs. Results displayed in 3D view and detailed reports include:
  • Flux Density
  • Flux Linkages
  • Voltages
  • Inductances
  • Power loss – Including winding, core and magnet losses
  • Torque – Including average torque and torque ripple
  • Dynamic stator tooth forces
• Efficiency Map and Maximum Speed Torque Curve analyses – Generate map based non-linear DQ models of the machine enabling:
  • Analysis of single load case with speed, torque and control strategy specified
  • Calculation of Maximum Speed Torque curve
  • Generation of full efficiency maps for a specified control strategy
• Skewed Rotors – Analyse machines with skewed rotors via a sliced 2.5D analysis
• Eccentricity – Include static and dynamic eccentricity and their effect on dynamic forces. Calculate unbalanced rotor forces
• Scripting – As with other MASTA design and analysis capabilities, the new electric machine functionality is available via MASTA’s powerful API and scripting capabilities
