About The Role:

As a Software Engineer / Analyst you will be part of our Software team. The Software Department is responsible for developing first class engineering software products to the global transmission, electric machine, and electrified powertrain industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop first class engineering software products.
  • Research, implementation and testing of new analysis methods and code architecture.
  • Write or support the writing of documentation for software capabilities.
  • Maintenance of current and developed software code to maintain SMT’s reputation for quality and robust software.
  • Support SMT’s Customer Support related to developed software capabilities.
  • Support SMT’s pre and post sales activities related to developed software capabilities in the form of meetings, presentations, and training.
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative work environment.
  • Keep up to date and compliant with all relevant legislation and Company policies and procedures, with particular attention to the requirements of ‘Information Security’ and ‘Quality’ practices.
  • Opportunity to support any pre or post sales marketing, sales and support activities which may involve travel to customer sites.
  • Opportunity to support engineering services projects.
  • Write papers on developed methods/capabilities where appropriate.
  • Self-learning, keeping knowledge up to date on new technologies and methods which may be beneficial to support the business.
  • Any other duties as requested from time to time.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

  • Essential:
    • PhD in mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science or similar discipline.
    • Relevant experience of software engineering.
    • Strong research skills with the ability to research a technical topic to a deep level with minimum supervision.
    • Good communication and personal skills.
    • Problem solving skills.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Advanced technical skills.
    • The ability to work in a team and individually.
  • Desirable:
    • Knowledge of mechanical and electric powertrains and their components.
    • Domain knowledge in any domain the department develop software in e.g. gears, bearings, shafts, electric machines…
    • Multi Body Dynamics Simulation.
    • Numerical analysis.
    • Optimisation.
    • Commercial C# experience.
    • .Net
    • AI/ML
    • Experience of agile development.
