Job Role: Graduate/Junior Technical Support Engineer

About the Role

As a Graduate Technical Support Engineer you will be an integral part of a team dedicated to providing in-depth technical support to users of SMT’s engineering software – MASTA.

You will be involved in a wide variety of interesting and detailed technical topics from our international client base that includes a large number of the world’s most well-known companies. These include a wide range of automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers as well as manufacturer of wind turbines, construction, and industrial powertrains.

This role is based at SMT’s Nottingham Headquarters with opportunity for hybrid home-office working on successful completion of probation.

Following appropriate training and experience there will be opportunities to travel to customer sites, customer events and global conferences where you will be able to provide in person support to SMT-software users within some of the leading names in the industry.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Providing industry-leading technical software support to end users, partners and resellers of SMT software in accordance with company processes and quality standards *
  • Be instrumental in working with end users and SMT colleagues to solve their detailed technical engineering simulation and analysis questions using SMT software *
  • Communicate with end-users both verbally (telephone/video call/face-to-face) and in writing/email
  • Input into the generation of technical and training documentation, case studies and tutorial videos. Work alongside the Sales and Software Development Teams to ensure user requirements are captured for possible future software enhancement

What You’ll Need To Succeed:

  • Degree level qualification in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering with either 1st or 2:1 classification
  • An interest in both technical/CAE software and supporting SMT customers in their use and understanding of SMT software *
  • A strong desire to provide consistently high levels of customer support and recognition of the importance of customer satisfaction
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both with internal and external stakeholders for the clear communication of technical data and explanations
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with an attention to detail
  • The ability to undertake international travel to provide support and/or training
  • Be self-motivated and able to work as part of a team and also on own initiative
  • Able to manage own time and meet tight deadlines

* Full training in SMT MASTA Software will be provided for the successful candidate

Whilst not essential, the following additional skills would be an advantage:

  • Experience of FE modelling in Ansys/Nastran/Abaqus or equivalent
  • Experience of .NET/Python or MATLAB programming
  • Experience of gear/gearbox design and simulation software
  • Experience of transmission / powertrain design and analysis
  • Experience of delivering technical support or training to end-users
  • Preparing end-user technical documentation and/or training materials
